New Painting.

Baby Caleb. My baby boy. He's such a happy boy. I plan to do more paintings of my kids. Also some WoW fan art. Because I just love WoW! :)

So I started a new digital painting today after taking a few days off. Well I started it at like midnight. I notice that I work better in the middle of the night. I also installed my new version of Photoshop. I was using CS4 and now I'm using CS5. It has some nice features. I love the whole "painting" mode with the preset brushes that work with my Wacom Cintiq pen. I can't wait to play with those more. Probably not on this one.

No kids.. no noise... just my music and my art. I get the occasional disturbance of baby Caleb, but its ok because I know he's gotta eat!

So what we have so far...

Everything needs a bit more work. The mouth is wrong too. I'll get it though.

Sorcha complete!

So my first painting of Sorcha is complete. I'm happy she's done. She has consumed my dreams, and my waking available (when I'm not consumed by babies or toddler! Oye!) hours.
I'm really tired...

I am really proud of her. I hope in a year when I look back on her, I will still be proud of her! lol. I was looking through some of my old work today and was going.... what was I thinking... these are terrible!!


So far it's my best painting to date. I will continue getting better though. Here is a close up of her face, and necklace. The necklace I found during a google search for "Celtic Moon". I tried to find the owner to credit them with the design, however I couldn't locate them. If anyone knows who is the owner of this design please let me know!



Now for my next one! I'm thinking a fan art of World of Warcraft. God I haven't played in like weeks though... so I'm wondering if I want to become addicted again to feel the inspiration... or do I just want to draw another Sorcha. I have a great one in my mind...

Self Portrait Revisited....

Its been almost a year since I did a self portrait. I think it was because I wasn't really pleased with the others.. So I revisited the last one.. and did it in digital as that's my new favorite medium...

It's a little rough in a few spots, I think I will go back and retouch the area where the hair and the skin meets. Soften those edges. There is a scribbly spot in the hair ends that flip up to fix. Perhaps the tips of the hair could use some help too. That's just my own critic on it!

So I dug up the old self portrait completed in charcoal. I know its a different medium but I had to compare!

I was just so surprised in the difference, time can make when I put these side by side.

SO last night I did my first digital painting of a human.



Before I had done some of a character I was thinking about, but I hadn't yet ventured into painting people. I started with a gesture that kind of inspired me, then I decided to create a character, and then I drew another gesture, and then from there I started rendering kind of on a whim. I liked it so much, I finished the body, and then of course had to have a face! I found a picture of someone who matched my character for the most part, and then changed her a little from there.




I can't wait to paint her clothes on. I'm thinking I might do a whole little series on her. She's from a story I started writing about... 6 years ago. I keep going back to it in my head. Perhaps I should finish it.
